#HealthNotes: 6 Simple Resolutions for a healthy 2024
Who better to look to for some New Year’s resolution inspiration than the health and wellness experts themselves. Meaning the Doctors! University of Missouri Health Care Clinic asks their doctors to give some simple everyday resolutions that can easily be applied to everyone and why.
- (Realistically) Limit the Coffee. Even though a resolution as to drink less coffee — or even better — to drink more water would be perfect, the reality is that with the fast pace of life and every day stress that would not be possible. However, if we limit the amount of milk we put on our coffee on a daily basis, that would be deffinetely something that we can be accountable for. —
- Take the stairs more often. It’s always tempting to take the elevator, but taking the stairs up and down is a simple way to stay healthy (and save the elevators for those who really need it). The goal is to walk up at least one or two flights and at least two flights down.
- Cut the Nighttime Grazing. Not only may this resolution improve sleep quality, it will also help us lower risk of heart disease!
- Prioritize Daily Well-Being. Studies continue to show daily meditation and exercise help with stress and well-being.
- Follow the (Sun)Light. Sunlight — particularly UVB — is important for our health. Studies show appropriate early morning sun and safe sun exposure on skin (don’t get burned) is vital for regulating sleep/wake cycles, hormones, mood and metabolism. It would be nice to plan and take a morning walk when the UV index is low or step outside for a few minutes on a lunch break or between meetings. A little sunlight goes a long way.
- Streeeeetch. Standing or sitting in an office chair for eight hours a day does not help our back. Good posture and ergonomics are key to a pain-free life in the long run!
Hope you find it usefull!Enjoy the new year ahead!
